About

For some time I have been looking for a home for my fat-fingered “creations” and I guess you’ve been unlucky enough to run across it. Still, now you’re here, let’s get acquainted.

My music is experimental. The approach may not be unique, but the compositions are original. There’s seldom a plan. No end game. More likely, an unexpected sound created during a rushed edit, or a sequence vastly improved by the unplanned deletion of a rim shot. You could call it digital serendipity. But unless you were the lyricist in a 1960’s prog-rock band, you probably wouldn’t.

What’s in a name?

Jonathan Scary is clearly a nom de plume. Here’s the (not terribly) interesting tale:

Several years ago, my daughter’s favourite book was a short rhyme about Hairy Maclary, a Skye Terrier created by New Zealand author, Lynley Dodd – though we think she looks exactly like our Bearded Collie. We both loved the tale of Bottomly Potts all covered in spots, Schnitzel Von Krumm with a very low tum, Hercules Morse as big as a horse and she always joined in when I got to the end of each verse: “and Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy”.

Thing is, she would always holler: “and Hairy Maclary from Jonathan Scary”. The rest, as they say…
