Indian Summer
13 February 2009 in Music, ProductionInspired by the soundtrack to Slumdog Millionaire, I wanted to compose something with a Bollywood feel over a dance bass and drum groove. The result is “Indian Summer” – named after the synth pad from Cubase 4.5 which features in the opening eight bars.

Big thanks to @idoliside’s tweets and DMs and for offering really helpful pointers for the final mixdown. I was losing the bass line amongst the heavy bass drum beats which had made the whole bottom end sound very mushy. A few tips for EQing, along with some pointers on lifting the snare out and I’m pretty pleased with the pre-mastered mix. As ever, I’ll need to leave it for a few days and may well remix once I haven’t heard it for the fiftieth time the same day!

Hi Jonathan!
Nice mix with Indian Summer. I think it hits your goals. Definite Bollywood feel. Haven’t seen Slumdog Millionaire yet. Heard it’s actually a decent and well made flick.
Also like the new vector icon for Twitter and your blog. Good job!
Hey Jonathan,
Indian Summer hits the spot. I fear my Amplitube and Traktion mixes with real instruments may be trailing you at this point in time ;o)
Thanks (as ever). Your feedback and time taken to stop by the site are greatly appreciated. All the very best. JS
Hey Martyn
Isn’t it about time I heard some of those mixes?
Thanks for the fb. JS
