Getting to grips with Send FX in Cubase
4 February 2009 in Music, ProductionSpent a little time with the Cubase manual last night getting my rather thick head around the concepts of insert and send effects, dry and wet mixes, group effects and so on. As a result, I’ve been playing around this morning with a two bar drum loop I’ve created and a bass line to which I’ve added Stereo Delay (dry mix on one drum track and faded in on the wet mix for another drum track) and AmpSimulator, Stereo Delay and DaTube on another FX channel.
The result may be something I can develop, but I’ll need to come back to it later today to see if I still like it. It was early morning when I put this together, so who knows how it’ll sound at a more sociable hour.

Stayed away from this all day and just had another listen now. Apart from the arrangement of the few bars, I think there is something I can work with.
Want to avoid starting with the rim kit (getting a bit predictable) and maybe go straight into the heavily distorted drum sounds. Depending on whether I get some sleep tonight, I may well revisit this in the morning.
If the only thing I achieve is a better understanding of the MediaBay, FX channels and the Arranger Track, well at least that’ll be something worthwhile.
