One of the things I’d like to do (given the title of the blog) is export some of the sounds from my Roland TD7 into Cubase (particularly the 808 kit samples). Not sure quite how to do this yet, but I figure it must be possible. (Hint: if you’re reading this and can help me avoid UTFM training, that’d be great!)
Ultimately, of course, I want to be bashing out rhythms on a shiny new TD20 (left) – but I’ll need to convince the bank manager before that happens!

Every time I look at that photo my feet start tapping. Why do they have to be soooo expensive?!
Your wish to import your TD7 sounds has got me curious. Why cant you just trigger them via midi.
Any problems you have with the TD7 will still exist with a TD20 (assuming you already have drum pads)
Cant fault you wanting a TD20 mind, wouldn’t mind one myself (currently use a TD8 with extra pads)
You’re absolutely right. Truth is, the TD7 is currently in the attic and I haven’t tried. This post was written the day after I took delivery of Cubase.
I’ve been using the VSTs from Cubase so far and the sounds which ship with it. I’m about to start using some other sounds, but to date have only used these by browsing from MediaBay.
I’ve also been triggering from an Axiom 49 (M-Audio), but I’m guessing I’ll need some kind of midi interface to get the TD7 into Cubase? Or maybe I could run it through the Axiom. (As you can see, I’m still new to all of this!!)
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment.
The Axiom has a built in midi interface (according to the website) so you can just plug the tD7 into that. For Monitoring you can plug the audio from cubase into the aux input on the TD7. The problem you are left with is getting audio from the TD7 into cubase to do final mixes.
Hmm. Good point. Just tweeted it. I’ll post any responses here.
Got a couple of replies, both saying much the same thing. It’ll be easy to record audio, but only on a sample by sample basis. I was looking for a way to batch export (or dump) all the audio, otherwise this could be a mind-numbing exercise:
@banjo1: Just input the audio from the TD7 and record it as an audio file! Then you can edit it it or use it in a sampler.
@rozz3r: audio out of td7 brain to audio in of your souncard and record in cubase. Simple.
